ERP systems are designed to ensure that the right skilled workers, tools and materials as well as the necessary energy and money are in the right place at the right time to produce goods. ERP systems are therefore industrial processes cast in software. Essentially, they are the transformation of long parts lists into rigid relational databases with unbearable user interfaces. What good is that in the age of AI?
