The fact that ADAC uses our software in 900 branches is already a great honour. Nevertheless, it was surprising for us to receive the innovation award for the project for the pre-sale of video toll tickets.

The Innovation Award 2005

The 2005 Innovation Award in the services sector went to holzweg e-commerce solutions. The Tyrolean company, based in Innsbruck, received the coveted prize for a sales solution for the advance sale of video toll tickets via the Brenner, the Tauern freeway and other Austria-wide special toll routes. The new system was a complete success after only a short time.

At last, individual journeys via the video toll lane

ASFINAG has been operating automated video toll lanes on so-called special toll routes (e.g. Brenner freeway) for many years. Until now, their use was reserved only for holders of an annual pass. Until now, vacationers or occasional drivers could only purchase individual trips directly at the toll booth. The result: long waits in front of the toll booths, hectic searches for change, and nerve-racking and environmentally damaging traffic jams at peak times. The new technology eliminates these problems. It not only ensures smooth passage without stopping, but also helps improve the side effects of transit traffic such as congestion, poor air quality and unhealthy workplaces.

Expansion to the whole of Austria

Due to the great success of this project, the clearance lanes of all special toll routes throughout Austria have been converted to the new technology. Tickets can be purchased at the Angath and Nassereith freeway service stations and at the Achenpass, Scharnitz, Kiefersfelden and Brenner border sales points, among others. Even in Hamburg and in another 900 branches of the ADAC, a Brenner ticket can be purchased with holzweg's software. Further partners of this solution are 94 test centers of the ARBÖ. 2005 were sold from January to September already 439,000 single journeys. Since October 2005, the annual ticket can also be purchased online.

Innovations from holzweg

Holzweg specializes in creatively implementing its customers' visions. With the video toll card and other references, the Tyrolean company holzweg signals reliability and competence in innovative and visionary projects. Not least because of this, it was able to prevail over a large number of competitors in the awarding of the quality control system of the Austrian Truck Roadpricing.

Since 1995 holzweg realizes creative ideas around software and internet. Tight project management paired with design creativity and technical competence are the strengths. As managing director, consulting was very important to me. The problems and needs of our customers were especially close to my heart - that's why we made it our business to work out tailor-made solutions together with our customers. In order to be able to react optimally to the constantly changing challenges, we relied on the versatile competences, potentials and life plans of our permanent and freelance employees. Work-life balance was not just an empty phrase in our company, but a fixed component of performance-oriented performance.

Regular reinvention

Innovative strength is a survival factor. Only if a company reinvents itself every few years will it be successful on the market in the coming decades. The orders we have received so far confirm this. Thus holzweg realized many successful projects, among others for MPreis, Biochemie Kundl and Egger Holz. Swarovski was also acquired as a customer. I look back on this time with pleasure, as I was able to celebrate many successes with holzweg.
